Local bourse sinks back into the red

The local bourse currently appears incapable of sustaining a run of more than two sessions of gains, as it returned to a southbound course on Monday, while turnover also dropped.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,429.12 points, declining by 0.39 percent from last Friday?s close at 1,434.65 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.46 percent to end at 646.17 points. Nevertheless, the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index rose by 0.61 percent.

Ellaktor led the blue chips with gains of 2.94 percent, ahead of Jumbo (up 2.57 percent) and OPAP (1.47 percent). Going down were ATEbank (4.35 percent), Marfin Investment Group (4.23 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (3.45 percent). National Bank gave up 0.19 percent.

In total, 65 stocks moved up, 74 went down and 52 remained unchanged. Centric Multimedia posted the biggest rise with gains of 11.11 percent, while Audiovisual led the losers, shedding 9.76 percent.

Turnover came to 56.7 million euros, down from 64 million on Friday.
