Cyprus tourism soared in July

Tourism in Cyprus is going from strength to strength, with July 2011 being the best July in the past decade, according to data released on Tuesday in Nicosia by the island?s statistical authority.

Revenues in July posted an 18.8 percent increase from the same month in 2010, Alekos Orountiotis, the head of the Cyprus Tourism Organization, said in a press conference held to present the data.

Revenues in the year?s first seven months grew by 142 million euros year-on-year, or 17.5 percent, while foreign tourist arrivals grew by 12.6 percent in the same period.

Despite the economic crisis in Greece, arrivals from this country to Cyprus increased by 12.4 percent, while arrivals from Russia soared by almost 60 percent.
