Less festive spending this year

The smiles of Christmas shoppers in Greece this year will likely be strained as consumers in this country intend to spend no more than 320 euros apiece on average, and the lion?s share of that won?t be going toward presents or clothes but on food, according to the results of the 14th European survey by Deloitte on consumer habits during the festive season.

The Greek average is far below the European one of 587 euros, and is significantly lower than last year?s Greek average of 410 euros, representing a 22 percent drop.

Greeks also said they would give presents to fewer people and would be much more careful with the price tags.
