EU subsidies at risk, commissioner says

European Commissioner for Regional Development Johannes Hahn told reporters on Wednesday that Greece faced the risk of being asked to return 3.5 billion euros in EU subsidies due to a delay in the absorption of these funds in hundreds of projects, Skai reported.

Hahn, who has held talks with Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos and Regional Development Minister Michalis Chrysochidis in Athens, said that the immediate release of 260 million euros was necessary for the completion of those works and for Greece to meet deadlines for absorption.

Talks with Hahn on Tuesday focused on ?the sector of public investment, the sector of structural programs,? Venizelos said, adding that his aim was to ?unite these in a common approach that gives hope and prospects, because the great problem of the Greek economy is disappointment.?
