Bourse?s lowest turnover in 13 years

Stocks on the local bourse began the week with fresh losses and the lowest daily turnover seen in the last 13 years, due to investors keeping their distance from the Greek market as well as the upcoming holidays.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 650.50 points, shedding 0.82 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 655.91 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 1.46 percent to close at 246.86 points.

Piraeus Bank outperformed with gains of 5.21 percent, while Hellenic Postbank contracted by 8.87 percent following news of its merger with T Bank.

In total, 55 stocks registered gains, 89 posted losses and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover totaled 23.7 million euros, down from Friday?s 49 million.
