Banking stocks lead the way as turnover slides

The sectoral index for bank stocks posted a fifth consecutive rise on Tuesday to help the main index of the Greek bourse start the last week of the year with moderate gains.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 669.49 points, growing 0.67 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 665.06 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 1.24 percent to close at 259.37 points.

Eurobank EFG led the way among blue chips with daily gains of 12.50 percent, followed by Alpha Bank (up 11.91 percent). OPAP gaming company declined by 2.21 percent.

In total, 85 stocks registered gains, 62 posted losses and 31 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to a record low of 15.1 million euros.
