Bourse posts small losses as year draws to a close

The stagnant waters of the Greek bourse showed very little movement once again on Thursday in a session affected by the ongoing slide of the euro.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 667.30 points, dropping 0.34 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 669.57 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew 0.36 percent to close at 259.19 points, while the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index added 1.35 percent.

Cyprus-based banks continued to reap gains on news of natural gas discovered off the island?s coast, with Bank of Cyprus adding 9.19 percent and Marfin Popular Bank gaining 8.49 percent.

In total, 80 stocks registered gains, 77 posted losses and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 18 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 31.4 million.
