Merkel, Juncker meet with eye on EU summit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will host Luxembourg?s Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker for talks in the northern German city of Stralsund, in her electoral district.

Merkel and Juncker, who also heads the group of euro-area finance ministers, will tour the city at 4 p.m. on Feb. 24 then give joint statements at about 5 p.m. before they hold discussions, Steffen Seibert, chief German government spokesman, said in an e-mailed statement.

The talks will center on the situation in the euro region and preparations for a March 1-2 summit of European leaders, Seibert said.

The Eurogroup is expected to meet on March 1 ahead of the EU leaders? gathering to give the final approval for a 130-billion-euro loan package for Greece.
