Gas stations will see their opening hours completely deregulated once the amendment tabled on Friday by the Environment and Energy Ministry is voted on by Parliament.

The current status has deregulated opening hours only for major islands (such as Crete and Evia), while on mainland Greece gas pumps can only remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the winter and up to 10.30 p.m. in the summer.

The deregulation forms part of Greece?s commitments to its creditors.

The amendment also provides for 10-20 percent of gas stations in every region being allowed to operate at night. On Sundays and holidays 25-50 percent will be open in every region.

Gas stations with automatic vending machines will be considered as night-operating, even with no staff.
