Party continues on bourse as index clears 600 pts

Reports about an agreement by the main pro-bailout parties to form a coalition government gave a fresh boost on Tuesday to the local stock market, which has been going from strength to strength over the last five sessions.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 600.07 points, adding 3.34 percent to Monday?s closing figure of 580.67 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 3.21 percent to close at 230.11 points.

OPAP gaming company enjoyed gains of 8.95 percent, followed by Motor Oil (up 7.45 percent), OTE telecom (6.99 percent) and National Bank (6.67 percent). Piraeus Bank declined by 3.68 percent.

In total, 84 stocks posted gains, 46 recorded losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 71.3 million euros, down from Monday?s 102 million.
