US support is conditional

The United States will support Greece in its effort to emerge from the economic crisis provided that the government implements the bailout program it has agreed on with its creditors, the US Treasury?s assistant secretary for international finance, Charles Collyns (right), told Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras in Athens on Wednesday.

The two officials discussed the Greek privatization program, which Collyns appeared particularly interested in, as well as the country?s overall fiscal state and the economic challenges that lie ahead in the near future.

Stournaras also presented Collyns with the Greek government?s plans for measures worth 11.5 billion euros over the next couple of years.

Collyns had met on Tuesday with Deputy Finance Minister Giorgos Mavraganis, who is in charge of state revenues.
