Subdued session sees index register small losses

A quiet session on the local bourse on Monday, partly due to the US Labor Day holiday, saw stocks split between gainers and losers, with the benchmark index sliding at the end of the day.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 642.37 points, shedding 0.69 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 646.82 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.99 percent to close at 231.35 points. However the mid-cap index added 1.15 percent.

OTE telecom outperformed with gains of 3.10 percent, while Bank of Cyprus led the losers among blue chips, giving up 5.29 percent.

In total, 55 stocks posted gains, 57 registered losses and 19 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 17 million euros, down from Friday?s 22.4 million.
