The Greek bourse is showing convincing signs of a healthy recovery despite the absence of clear economic developments that would justify the rise in stock prices and turnover at this stage. Banks stole the show during Monday?s session, while over 100 stocks posted gains.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 726.05 points, up 4.70 percent on Friday?s closing figure of 693.49 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 6.12 percent to close at 267.17 points.
Bank of Cyprus outperformed with a rise of 27.75 percent, followed by Piraeus Bank (up 15.73 percent) and Titan cement (11.60 percent).
In total, 108 stocks secured gains, 41 suffered losses and 20 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 80.7 million euros, from 49.4 million on Friday.
