Benchmark index edges up on mix of hopes and fears

The Greek bourse?s main index ended marginally higher on Tuesday, although stocks were split between gainers and losers amid a mix of optimism and fear regarding the fiscal streamlining project?s short-term prospects.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index spent all day in positive territory and ended at 829.59 points, expanding by 0.55 percent from Monday?s 825.09 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index squeaked up 0.03 percent to close at 302.87 points.

Bank of Cyprus lost 8.21 percent and Cyprus Popular Bank gave up 4.76 percent following the downgrading of the Cypriot credit rating by Moody?s. Coca-Cola HBC outperformed, adding 4.38 percent.

In total, 66 stocks went up, 65 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 61.5 million euros, against Monday?s 92.8 million.
