More visitors expected from China, says tourism minister

Greece is poised to host an increasing number of visitors from China, some of whom are expected to visit the country outside of the traditional tourist season, according to Tourism Minister Olga Kefaloyianni.

Speaking on Skai television on Wednesday Kefaloyianni noted that the government was examining ways to simplify visa procedures for Chinese citizens, while at the same time facilitate their stay through a series of smartphone applications, for instance.

Greece has managed to regain lost ground, said Kefaloyianni, citing more competitive prices in the sector. The minister said she hoped the coalition government would soon reach a decision with regard to lowering the value added tax rate in the food sector.
