Alpha leads healthy rise among stocks on bourse

The local bourse enjoyed a session of healthy gains for the vast majority of stocks on Tuesday following several days of decline, though the transaction volume continued to leave much to be desired.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 818.62 points, expanding by 2.29 percent from Monday’s 800.91 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index grew by 1.94 percent to end at 279.18 points.

Piraeus and National shared 40 percent of the day’s entire turnover, the former recording gains of 3.37 percent and the latter giving up 0.40 percent.

Leading blue chips on the day was Alpha Bank with a rise of 9.25 percent, ahead of Intralot (up 6.62 percent), while Coca-Cola HBC declined by 0.88 percent.

In total, 82 stocks posted gains, 41 registered losses and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 47.8 million euros, more than double from Monday’s 23.6 million.
