Shipowners agree to doubling their tax contribution

Representatives of Greek shipowners who visited the prime minister’s office this week signed an agreement for the voluntary contribution of shippers to state revenues through a capacity tax.

Signing the agreement were the head of the shipowners’ association, Theodoros Veniamis, and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, flanked by Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.

With this tax their annual contribution will generate from 75-140 million euros per year over the next three years.
