Benchmark for Greek stocks racks up five days of gains

The Athens bourse completed on Friday a full week of gains, if rather modest on most days, while the benchmark index’s fifth northbound session was accompanied by a rise in turnover turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,030.95 points, adding 0.23 percent to Thursday’s 1,028.58 points. On a weekly basis it gained 4.77 percent.

The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 0.21 percent to end at 348.13 points, although the small-cap index continued its descent, slipping 0.88 percent.

Viohalco, which is set to retain its Athens listing, gained 7.39 percent, while Marfin Investment Group declined by 2.68 percent.

In total 71 stocks moved up, 52 headed lower and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 62.6 million euros, up from Thursday’s 44.6 million.
