Lender stocks lead bourse to moderate rise

Banks were the main gainers at the end of Thursday’s bourse session. Turnover however remained low, albeit at a level that left much to be desired when compared with the highs observed during October.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,143.62 points, adding 1.02 percent to Wednesday’s 1,132.02 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 rose 0.93 percent to end at 379.54 points.

The bank index grew by 2.78 percent, with Piraeus going up 5.38 percent and National climbing 3.13 percent. Viohalco, which will be delisted at the end of Friday’s session, gave up 2.67 percent on Thursday.

In total 84 stocks moved up, 55 headed south and 25 stayed put.

Turnover reached 82.1 million euros, against Wednesday’s 76.5 million.
