Shopping Sundays increase across Greece

In 37 cases, regional authorities have decided to extend the number of Sundays when stores are allowed to open beyond the seven per year as dictated by law based on the tourism interests in each area, the decisions of tradesmen and on local events and customs.

In Attica, every Sunday will be a shopping Sunday for Plaka, Monastiraki, Eastern Attica and Fyli, and the islands of Spetses, Hydra and Poros. In Thessaloniki and Ioannina, stores will also open on the last Sunday of the year, while Thessaloniki stores will also open on Sundays during the International Fair.

Deputy Development Minister Athanasios Skordas spoke on Thursday of a satisfactory number of regional authorities that chose to expand the number of shopping Sundays.
