Highway work to resume at last

The auction of a construction project on the main part of the national highway from Patra to Tsakona in the western Peloponnese will take place in spring and will be completed in the form of a public works project funded by the European Union subsidy program for the 2014-20 period, Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis announced on Monday, thereby launching the process for the eagerly anticipated resumption of highway works.

The project concerns the construction of two new sections, from Patra to Pyrgos (76 kilometers) and from Kalo Nero to Tsakona (29 km), while the section in between, from Pyrgos to Kalo Nero, has been abandoned as planning had provided for the new highway to pass through the protected area of Kaiafas.

The project will be completed by 2016.
