Samaras meets with EU’s Energy Commissioner in Athens

European Commissioner for Energy Guenther Oettinger is expected in Athens on Friday for a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

Oettinger will hold a separate meeting with Environment and Energy Minister Yiannis Maniatis.

Talks in Athens are expected to focus on Greece’s energy policy objectives during its six-month presidency of the European Union starting January 1st, including the creation of the so-called Southern Corridor which is aimed at diversifying the routes and sources of the bloc’s energy supply, thereby increasing secure delivery.

In light of pressure for the deregulation of Greece’s energy market, talks between the two sides are also expected to focus on the privatization of Public Power Corporation (PPC).
