Retailers’ demand for one more Sunday adds to confusion

Just as retail commerce in Greece had started getting to grips with the new law on Sunday opening – that will allow retail stores to open on December 15 and 22 – a number of retailers, including the association of professionals at the Varvakeios meat market in central Athens, have also asked for permission to open on the last Sunday of the year, December 29.

However, a legislative amendment will be required for this to happen, which means that the government will have to pass the legislation in Parliament by December 20, which is next Friday.
