Stournaras statement contains stock losses

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras’s statements that the bill on the capital gains tax and the operation of the market would be amended to correct any errors offered the local bourse some relief on Monday, although most stocks still suffered losses on the back of trader worries about its future course.

The ATHEX general index closed at 1,146.88 points, giving up 0.85 percent from Friday’s 1,156.74 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 0.48 percent to end at 376.34 points.

Coca-Cola HBC outperformed, growing 2.27 percent, with Alpha Bank adding 1.71 percent. The leading losers were Folli Follie (down 3.42 percent), Ellaktor (3.12 percent), GEK Terna (2.94 percent) and Marfin Investment Group (2.68 percent).

In total 47 stocks recorded gains, 92 sustained losses and 20 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 79 million euros, down from last Friday’s 94.7 million.
