Hydrocarbon data pique oil firms’ interest

The global oil industry’s response to a presentation of Greece’s hydrocarbon indications at a recent exhibition in Houston, Texas, was at first surprise and then interest, according to the president of the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company, Sofia Stamataki.

Stamataki told Voice of America Radio that she had presented the “Greece MegaProject” – the data compiled by Norwegian surveying company PGS during its surveys of the hydrocarbon-rich areas across the Ionian Sea and south of Crete – to an audience of 17,000 delegates from over 1,000 companies. The PGS seismic data point to some very encouraging findings that confirm potential similar to areas of neighboring Albania and southern Italy where oil is already being extracted.

Among the companies present in Houston that have already shown an interest in the Greek hydrocarbon market, were leading brands ConocoPhillips, Statoil, British Petroleum, Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Noble, among others.

The next presentation of the “Greece MegaProject” is planned for March 11-13 at an American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG Appex) conference in London.
