Undeclared labor declines

Fines imposed on employers for undeclared labor exceeded 12 million euros in the period from September 15 to February 28, according to the Labor Ministry’s electronic Artemis system, following inspections on 9,642 enterprises that found 1,188 undeclared employees out of a total of 62,532 workers.

Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis stated yesterday that the inspections had confirmed the trend toward declining undeclared labor, which came after the introduction of much higher fines that now reach up to 10,550 euros per undeclared employee.

“After the significant decline in non-salary costs and the five percentage point cut in social security contributions, it is obvious that the monitoring of employers’ compliance will become stricter,» stated Vroutsis.
