Rebalancing sends bourse turnover and index soaring

The upcoming changes in the composition of the FTSE 25, MSCI Global Standard and MSCI Large Cap Indices as of next week resulted in a massive increase in turnover on the Greek bourse yesterday, exceeding 800 million euros in what was the last session of the month, while the benchmark returned back above the 1,220-point level.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,223.48 points, rising 1.43 percent from Thursday’s 1.206.21 points. On a weekly basis it climbed 4.47 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 1.65 percent to 395.98 points.

Blue chip Folli Follie was up 10.34 percent, while Kathimerini’s stock added 22.95 percent.

In total 69 stocks went up, 60 came down and 18 stayed put.

Turnover came to 807.3 million euros, against Thursday’s 229 million.
