Manufacturing start made easier

Entrepreneurs across 897 manufacturing activities will soon be able to start a new business by submitting a simple form to their regional authority, saving time and money both for themselves and the public administration, Development Minister Constantinos Skrekas said on Monday.

The new law, and the relevant ministerial decree signed by Skrekas regarding its application, abolishes the need for an operation permit for new manufacturing enterprises in Greece across a wide array of sectors, ranging from the processing and storage of potatoes to the production of alcoholic drinks and the assembly of vehicles.

Businessmen will need to maintain their own file of documents such as the construction permit, fire safety certification etc, which will need to be produced in case of an inspection by the authorities.

The ministry hopes that entrepreneurs will be spared at least two to three months with the new system, as well as between 60 and 1,500 euros which they have to pay to authorities in stamps etc, in order to have their operation licensed issued under the current procedures.
