ATHEX: Stocks slide after rally on Wednesday

The Greek bourse reacted with disappointment on Thursday after investors’ hopes for a deal between Athens and its creditors, which spurred a mini-rally on Wednesday, once again failed to materialize, with some of the traders reaping capital gains.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 827.12 points, shedding 1.32 percent from Wednesday’s 838.22 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index contracted 1.63 percent to close at 247.88 points.

Terna Energy stood out among the blue chips with 5.81 percent growth, while Eurobank dropped 5.16 percent, OPAP lost 3.85 percent, Alpha Bank declined 3.48 percent and Folli Follie fell 3.11 percent.

In total 41 stocks posted gains, 64 took losses and 15 were non-movers.

Turnover amounted to 66.1 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 109.3 million.
