The tender for the construction of the first section of Line 4 of Athens metro will be launched in the next four months, according to the government.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis told ERT on Monday that the first phase would account for 35 percent of the total project, which will stretch over 13.5 kilometers in a U-shape and link Goudi in eastern Athens with Alsos Veikou (Veikou Woods), northeast of the city center,

Spirtzis said that the government is in talks with the European Investment Bank, which is partly funding the project, and other organizations so that the tender for the second part of the new line can be launched within 2016.

The section between Evangelismos in downtown Athens and Also  and which will stretch over 8.3 kilometers and comprise nine stations, will be the first section to be built.
