Sea Chevtex has fixed Lundqvist tonnage for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 15 E. Coast UK, discharging UKC, at W/S 151.25. – Caribs still have a lack of fresh inquiry. Rates are still around W/S 130 for the 70,000-ton cargo liftings. Chevtex has fixed M/T «Sanko Quality» loading Mar. 9, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 127.5. – Increased activity for Suezmaxes out of W. Africa. Rates are hovering around W/S 150 for USAC and European destinations. – Sun has fixed M/T «Olympic Faith» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 30, discharging USAC, at W/S 150, while BP for same cargo, loading Apr. 1, discharging Spain, has fixed M/T «Aegean Eagle» at same levels. – On VLCCs, Hyundai for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 7 Arabian Gulf, discharging Far East, has fixed M/T «Helios Breeze» at W/S 106. – In the Med., Petroplus for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 24 Libya, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Katja» at W/S 210. – In the Cont., Irving for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 15 N. Sea, discharging E. Coast Canada, has fixed M/T «Astro Sirius» at W/S 195. DRY CARGO Firmer conditions late last week, with Capers quite active, having gained 178 points totaling 6,560 on Mar. 5. – Noble in the Atlantic has fixed M/V «Ocean Century,» 170,500 dwt, built 2000, delivery Mar. 13-15 France, trip via Brazil, redelivery China, at USD 93,000 daily, while in the Far East, BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Cape Osprey,» 161,448 dwt, built 1995, delivery Mar. 12 China, trip via Australia, at USD 64,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, Atlantic has more mineral cargoes and some grain cargoes out of Argentina. Freight rates have increased, while their index has moved upward by 131 points, totaling 5,294. – Nasl has fixed M/V «Yong Li,» 74,382 dwt, built 2001, delivery Brazil Mar. 20-30, redelivery China, at USD 48,500 daily. – On Panamax in Far East, Daiichi has fixed M/V «Gertrud Salamon,» 74,078 dwt, built 2000, delivery/redelivery Japan March 10-15, trip via China, at USD 40,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Pacific Prospect,» 73,630 dwt, built 1993, delivery US Gulf Mar. 20-30, redelivery Far East, at USD 49,500 daily. – On smaller cargo sizes, Levante has fixed M/V «Ken Explorer,» 45,719 dwt, built 1997, delivery Skaw Mar. 9-10, trip via Baltic, redelivery USAC, at USD 25,500 daily. – On grain cargoes, Cam has fixed M/V «Olympic Merit» for 25,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 15-22 Argentina, discharging Algeria, at USD 59.00 per ton with 7,500 tons load and 3,000 tons discharge.
