Taxisnet open for business

From yesterday, taxpayers are able to file their income tax returns for 2003 via the Internet. The Finance Ministry is expecting about 300,000 returns to be filed in this way, which means fast clearing and dispatch of the relevant responses to taxpayers. Those opting to use the facility must fill in a form, available at www.taxisnet.gr, and will receive a discount of 2.5 percent on any taxes due. The discount applies to amounts of up to 118 euros, which taxpayers may opt to pay in installments, after they receive notice. Those choosing to pay in a lump sum will also enjoy an additional discount for doing so, making a total of up to 5 percent discount. Taxisnet users due for a tax rebate will receive it within 15 days, as long as it does not exceed the sum of 1,500 euros, in which case their income tax statement will be rechecked. Users are advised to print out and check the form before submission, as there is no possibility of correction after it is sent, except by resubmitting the entire amended document. As in past years, supplementary documents E2, E3 and E9 must be submitted separately by those liable between June 10 and July 10. The income tax E1 electronic form has identical content with the paper form and can be moved up and down on a computer screen. By pressing the «print» option, E1 appears in an easy form for printing. The clarity of the printing option may depend on the printer but the Finance Ministry says every possible effort has been made to bring the size of the printed document on par with paper forms. Copies of the completed form may also be saved for reference in a personal computer by pressing the «save» option on Internet Explorer.
