ATHEX: Energy stocks lead bourse to more gains, as turnover falls

Energy and banking stocks led the Greek bourse to another day of gains on Monday, with December shaping up to be one of the year’s most profitable months at Athinon Avenue. This was the fourth consecutive session of growth for the benchmark, although turnover was significantly lower than on Friday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 783.76 points, adding 2.08 percent to Friday’s 767.76 points. Following a reshuffle, the large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 1.91 percent to 2,035.88 points, and mid-caps jumped 3.96 percent.

The banks index rose 1.26 percent, with Piraeus ascending 3.15 percent and National increasing 3.02 percent. PPC rallied 5.67 percent, ADMIE Holdings grew 5 percent and Hellenic Petroleum advanced 3.40 percent.

In total 72 stocks posted gains, 27 had losses and 42 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 70.3 million euros, down from Friday’s 119 million.

In Nicosia the Cyprus Stock Exchange general index rose 0.13 percent to 69.27 points.
