TANKERS A quiet start to the week, with marginal fresh inquiry. – In the Med., the modern Aframaxes are being fixed at W/S 130, while in the N. Sea rates are holding at W/S 165. – Caribs stable too, with the latest fixtures for 70,000-ton cargo liftings at W/S 180-185. – Suezmaxes also quiet in all areas. – In the Med., the 130,000- to 135,000-ton cargoes are being fixed at W/S 180, while in W. Africa, the 130,000-ton cargoes with destination US Gulf are being fixed at W/S 157.5. – In the Med. and on Aframaxes, OMV for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 22 Egypt, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Iran Abadeh» at W/S 130. – In the Cont., Navion, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 26, for UKC round-trip voyage, has fixed M/T «Petropavlosk» at W/S 165. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed Conoco tonnage for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 19 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 187.5. – In W. Africa, Conoco for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 4, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Knock Dun» at W/S 157.5. DRY CARGO Capers still in good demand in the Pacific. – The USD 75,000 daily mark for round-trip voyages had not been seen yet. Owners are rating their modern tonnage at the above numbers, while the latest fixtures are running at USD 71,000-73,000 daily. – BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Cic Pride,» 171,870 dwt, built 2002, delivery China Feb. 15-20, trip via W. Australia, at USD 71,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, owners of modern tonnage are commanding good rates in both Pacific and Atlantic basin, while on Handymaxes, the Pacific remains quiet and the Atlantic market very positional. – In Far East, Pioneer has fixed M/V «Endless,» 73,427 dwt, built 1999, delivery China Feb. 18-20, for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 39,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Cargill has fixed M/V «CSE Harmony Express,» 76,000 dwt, built 2002, delivery mid-Feb. Passero, trip via US Gulf, redelivery Skaw / Passero, at USD 37,500 daily. – On smaller sizes, Western Bulkcarriers has fixed M/V «Moorgate,» 45,800 dwt, built 1990, delivery France mid-Feb. for 2/3 laden legs, redelivery Atlantic, at USD 27,500 daily. – On coal cargoes, Carboex has fixed M/V «Front Viewer» for 150,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 15-28 S. Africa, discharging Spain, at USD 20.25 per ton with two-day load and 25,000 tons discharge.
