Chance for Greek apparel industry to gain attention

The World Apparel Congress, taking place in Thessaloniki from Sunday to Tuesday, is considered a rare opportunity for the promotion of the Greek clothing industry. Organized by the International Apparel Federation (IAF), under the auspices of the Development Ministry, the conference is themed «Using the Violent Shifts in the International Chain of Apparel Products.» It will focus on the sector’s future within the context of the disruptive changes taking place in world apparel manufacturing and trade, as well as in consumer behavior in developed countries. «The constant decline in prices of apparel products in terms of purchase power has caused particularly significant changes in consumers’ behavior in developed countries and in the way they see clothing as a product,» notes the president of IAF and vice president of the Hellenic Clothing & Fashion Industry Associations, Vassilis Masselos. IAF data show that more than 80 Greek companies will participate in the conference. They include textile and clothing enterprises, both productive and trade, as well as companies outside the apparel sector. Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas, who will also be present, stated that this exhibition could be the means for highlighting the potential of the industrial and trade network that is developing in the broader region. The event, sponsored by Kathimerini, will have a total of 252 participants, with more than 200 of them representatives of Greek and foreign companies. The presence of international clothing and textile associations from countries such as France, Austria, Denmark, Spain, Taiwan and Vietnam adds more prestige to the conference.
