The train journey from Athens to Thessaloniki will be cut to about 3.5 hours from over four hours today when the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) completes a major project on a 52-kilometer, double, high-speed section of the line in Fthiotida prefecture, north of Athens, in 2013, Transport Minister Costis Hatzidakis said when visiting the work site yesterday. The project, budgeted at 706 million euros, includes a double, 6.3 km tunnel, and several bridges. It will be 50 percent financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
