Index slips after upbeat opening

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark index dropped by 26.41 points, or 0.64 percent, to 4,096.5 yesterday, despite spending the first half of the session in positive territory. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index lost 0.46 percent to 2,185.65 points. Viohalco (up 2.88 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (2.85 percent) outperformed among blue chips, while the losers were led by Intralot (down 3.26 percent), EFG Eurobank (3.02 percent), Hellenic Post Bank (2.14 percent) and Hellenic Technodomiki TEV (2.12 percent). The insurance sectoral index was by far the greatest of the three gainers of the day with a rise of 4.29 percent, against a drop of 2.10 percent for the health index. Turnover totaled 252.7 million euros.
