Vote on OTE deal

OTE president Panagis Vourloumis in Parliament yesterday ahead of a vote on the agreement between the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization and Deutsche Telekom. OTE unionists have sent a letter to all deputies asking them to carefully consider how they vote and reminding them that it is citizens who will be voting for them at the next elections, not Deutsche Telekom shareholders. Today the unionists will stage a rally in the center of Athens and march to Parliament. The protest is seen as a foretaste of the reactions that will likely follow the deal’s ratification. A 48-hour strike by OTE employees began yesterday.
