Banks push index lower

After a day of sharp fluctuations, the majority of stocks on the Greek bourse posted losses in a rather poor session in terms of investment interest. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 3,372.62 points, 0.92 percent lower than on Wednesday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 1.40 percent to 1,820.04 points. Coca-Cola HBC outperformed blue chips with a rise of 2.86 percent, followed by OPAP (up 1.82 percent) and Motor Oil (1.80 percent). The biggest losses were for Intralot (down 4.58 percent), ATEbank (3.57 percent), Alpha Bank (2.78 percent) and National Bank (2.60 percent). Banks on the whole proved a liability for the general index as most posted a decline. Their sectoral index dipped by 2.08 percent. Turnover reached 197.9 million euros.
