Gains wiped out at session end

Late-session sales wiped off the gains stocks had posted during the day and left the general index virtually unchanged from Wednesday. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,394.64 points yesterday, a 0.06 percent drop from the day before. In mid-session the index had risen to as high as 3,448 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.49 percent to 1,863.48 points, but mid-caps continued their rise. Coca-Cola HBC outperformed among blue chips, registering a 3.41 percent rise. Mytilineos followed (up 2.60 percent) along with Alpha Bank (1.93 percent) and National Bank (1.33 percent). Worst off yesterday were the stocks of the Bank of Cyprus (down 5.31 percent), Public Power Corporation (4.05 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (2.87 percent). Turnover reached 288.1 million euros.
