Drop in car sales…

The rise in fuel prices – and to a lesser extent in interest rates – has led to a drop in car sales and a small rise in motorbike sales, as the latter use less gasoline. National Statistics Service data showed that in the first seven months of the year car sales dropped by 3.3 percent year-on-year, having risen by 4.3 percent annually in the same period in 2007. In contrast, motorbike sales posted annual growth of 1.7 percent in the year to July. Gasoline Stations Federation president Michalis Kiousis said fuel consumption has dropped 16 percent from last year.
