Investors digesting first-half figures

Investors will be keeping an eye on foreign markets this week as they digest recently reported first-half earnings. The second-quarter reporting season wound up on Friday with some of the country’s largest companies, including National Bank and OTE telecoms, reporting figures. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index ended Friday at 3,292 points. Analysts said the benchmark general index’s downward momentum has eased, but buying interest is not strong enough to create sustainable upward movement. Wall Street is set for another volatile week after the Labor Day holiday, as investors track the price of oil, key economic data and continuing fallout from the credit crisis. All eyes will be on Hurricane Gustav and its potential to disrupt US Gulf Coast oil production while investors will also be sifting through a large body of economic data, including US August payrolls and reports on US factory output.
