Shooting range turned over to police

Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos (left) yesterday with Culture Minister Michalis Liapis at the Markopoulo Olympic shooting range, located southeast of Athens. The sports facility will be handed over to the Interior Ministry in order to accommodate police services. ‘At the same time, we will give people the opportunity to take part in cultural and sports events that also will be held here,’ said Liapis, whose ministry was in charge of the venue. Greece has been struggling to make proper use of the numerous facilities constructed for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. A total of some 35 stadiums were used across the country during the event with most of them now sitting idle, and requiring annual maintenance fees of some 100 million euros.
