OPAP at odds with UK’s Stanleybet as it bids to protect monopoly in Greece

Greek betting monopoly OPAP will take legal action against UK-based fixed-odds betting firm Stanleybet after it entered the Greek market by opening two retail outlets. «OPAP will defend its rights with all legal means available,» a company source told Kathimerini English Edition yesterday. Stanleybet International announced it had expanded into Greece by opening two stores, in Athens and Thessaloniki. Under Greek law, OPAP holds the exclusive rights to sports betting and lotteries in the country until 2020.
