Bourse continues good start to year

Investors on the Athens bourse will be hoping to extend the market’s positive start to the year, which saw the first two sessions end with solid gains. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index rose 2.79 percent to 1,862.32 points on Monday, adding to Friday’s gains of 1.42 percent. The Public Power Corporation (PPC) on Monday advanced 5.89 percent to 12.58 euros and OTE telecom jumped 8.46 percent to 13.12 euros. Aquaculture company Nireus rose 10.94 euros to 0.71 euros. Turnover reached 93.2 million euros. Meanwhile, in mid-session trade in the USA yesterday, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 68.34 points, or 0.76 percent, to 9,021.23 points.
