Blue chips halt bourse climb

Blue chips dragged the general index of the Athens bourse slightly lower yesterday after three rising sessions, although the losses incurred at closing were a fraction of those that had appeared during the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index came to 1,913.60 points yesterday, shrinking by 0.37 percent from Wednesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.12 percent to 997.33 points, although the mid- and small-cap indices registered small gains. Intralot outperformed blue chips with a 10.76 percent rise, followed by Marfin Investment Group (up 6.08 percent), OPAP (5.24 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (5.10 percent). OTE telecom recorded the biggest loss (down 4.72 percent), ahead of National Bank (3.84 percent) and Mytilineos (2.74 percent). Turnover reached 138.5 million euros.
