New section of Egnatia is handed over
Environment and Public Works Minister Giorgos Souflias addresses the press at a ceremony held yesterday to mark the opening of a section of the Egnatia Highway near Ioannina. The 9-kilometer stretch of highway was completed in two phases and links the areas of Arathos and Chrysovitsa. Ministry officials said the new section of the Egnatia Highway will replace a 15-kilometer stretch of the old, narrow national highway considered to be dangerous due to its many sharp turns. In a statement issued by PASOK, the Socialists agreed on the importance of the road but accused the government of completing the project at a very slow pace. ‘This is mainly due to the dramatic reduction in the government’s public investment program,’ PASOK said in a statement.
