Athens/SkyOne and Chrysler bid for Olympic
No more than two bidders have submitted offers for Olympic Airlines, and they are far lower than what the government had expected. The departure of major names from the bidding tender, such as Qatar, Iberia and Etihad, has further damaged the entire process, which is now bordering on a fiasco. Athens Airways, along with SkyOne, comprises one of the two suitors for Olympic, with the other being the California-based Chrysler Aviation, which is owned by Greek-American entrepreneur Stelios Rapis. Athens Airways launched its commercial flight schedule last Saturday, with its first route flying from Athens to Alexandroupolis, in the country’s north, and is expecting to soon add three more aircraft to its existing one.
