Subdued session registers losses
The negative climate on European stock markets sent the Greek bourse into significant losses yesterday, with an especially low turnover that failed to exceed even 80 million euros. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index fell to 1,726.81 points yesterday, dropping by 2.96 percent from Friday’s closure. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 3.63 percent to 886.36 points. Banks led the southward move of blue chips, although Titan cement fared even worse (down 9.79 percent). Alpha Bank lost 5.78 percent, National Bank declined by 5.16 percent and Piraeus Bank dropped by 4.23 percent. The bank index shrank by 4.15 percent, with only the construction index registering worse losses (6.18 percent). All blue chips were on the losing side yesterday. Turnover came to just 79.5 million euros.
