Equities rally to limit losses

Stocks on the Greek bourse recorded moderate losses yesterday, despite a considerable mid-session decline, which was in line with the bearish mood on international markets. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index shrank to 1,601.23 points yesterday, dropping by 0.86 percent from Thursday’s closure. At some point it had shown losses of as much as 2.87 percent, but recovered later to close just above the 1,600-point level. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index fell by 1.20 percent to close at 806.72 points. Few blue chips registered gains in yesterday’s session, with Coca-Cola Hellenic rising by 8 percent and OTE telecom adding 2.48 percent. Leading the losers were EFG Eurobank (down 6.01 percent), Alpha Bank (5.79 percent) and Piraeus Bank (4.42 percent). Turnover reached 110.7 million euros.
